SUMMARY:Radio In The Park / Scouts - JOTA
DESCRIPTION:Radio In The Park / Jamboree-On-The-Air\n\n\n\nOur usual Radio in the Park in October will also include Scouts coming to get on the air! We expect to have several Scouts from multiple troops coming to make contact with other stations including other JOTA Stations with the help of a GOTAham radio operator. \nJamboree-On-The-Air or JOTA is Scouting’s largest annual event. JOTA uses amateur radio to link Scouts around the world. At the park they will need to make and log some contacts to get credit towards earning the Radio Merit Badge. We are planning to have several stations set up to accommodate the Scouts. \nAs always\, all interested parties are welcomed\, no need to be licensed\, or a club member\, we look forward to sharing the hobby with anyone interested and welcome any/all questions!   \nCome to help the Scouts or just enjoy the day in the company of other Hams! You may want to bring a chair and some water. Some people may bring food or snacks. We encourage you to bring and set up your radios and antennas!   \n  \nLarkin Park\, Claremont\, CA\, 660 N Mountain Ave\, Claremont\, CA 91711.  \nGridsquare: DM14dc\, CQ Zone: 4\,  ITU Zone: 7 \nLarkin Park has shade trees and a few tables. If you are bringing a radio you may want to bring a table. We meet near the Northeast section of the park near 7th street.   \nAs usual remember to listen to the WG6OTA repeater before or on the way to the park\, just in case there is a change in plans. See you on the Air! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \n  \nJamboree-On-The-Air\nYou can help by: \n\nSet up a radio station and help Scouts; learn how to use the radio\, make contacts\, log those contacts on paper.\nHelp guide scouts to the various stations that are set up.\nBring a HT and help Scouts make contacts on repeaters or Simplex frequencies.\nFrom anywhere\, you can listen to; WG6OTA repeater\, 146.580Mhz\, and any of the HF frequencies below.  You might be able to make some contacts with the Scouts.\n\n  \nThe Scouts looking to earn the Radio Merit Badge will need to do the following: \n“Using proper call signs\, Q signals\, and abbreviations\, carry on a 10-minute real or simulated amateur radio contact using voice\, Morse code\, or digital mode. Properly log the real or simulated amateur radio contact\, and record the signal report.Note: Licensed amateur radio operators may substitute five QSL cards as evidence of contacts with five amateur radio operators.” \nThe Scouts\, with a licensed radio operator\, can use any legal frequency or mode including VHF/UHF and repeaters to make contacts. \n \nHF Frequencies\nHere are some commonly used HF frequencies for Scouting events like JOTA.  You can also use other frequencies. Any contact counts\, it does not have to be with another Scout. \nBands                 SSB (phone)                    CW (morse) \n80 m                     3.690 & 3.940 MHz          3.570 MHz \n40 m                    7.090 & 7.190 MHz           7.030 MHz \n20 m                     14.290 MHz                     14.060 MHz \n17 m                     18.140 MHz                     18.080 MHz \n15 m                     21.360 MHz                     21.140 MHz \n12 m                     24.960 MHz                     24.910 MHz \n10 m                     28.390 MHz                     28.180 MHz \n6 m                       50.160 MHz                     50.160 MHz \n  \nBrandmeister\nThe 907 Talk Group will be used to let Scouts make contacts worldwide\, under appropriatesupervision\, following individual country’s guidelines. \nList of the different lounges reserved for JOTA on the Brandmeister networkTG 907 – JOTA Call\, when contact is established\, you will have to go to one of the chat roomsbelow:TG 9071 – JOTA Room 1 TG 9072 – JOTA Room 2TG 9073 – JOTA Room 3 TG 9074 – JOTA Room 4TG 9075 – JOTA Room 5 TG 9076 – JOTA Room 6TG 9077 – JOTA Room 7 TG 9078 – JOTA Room 8 \n  \nD-star\nThere are two D-star reflectors\, REF33A and XLX005J can be used.REF033A has been assigned as a full-time D-STAR JOTA / Radio Scouting reflector.Once contact is made\, stations should disconnect from REF033A and connect to either repeateror migrate to an unused reflector.XLX005J is linked to the FreeDMR TG907\, which is the dedicated JOTA / Radio ScoutingTalkgroup.Connect to XLX005J through your D-STAR radio or your hotspot. On your Hotspot\, set the mode to D-STAR and select DCS005 or XLX005\, and then select NodeJ. \n  \nIf you want to see more information use these links. \nScouting JOTA Manual for Amateur Radio:  https://www.jotajoti.info/sites/default/files/uploads/JOTA-JOTI%202024/Activity%20files/2024%20-%20Jota-Joti%20-%20Manual%20for%20amateur%20radio%20activity%20-%20EN.pdf \nThe Radio Merit Badge requirements: https://www.scouting.org/merit-badges/radio/ \nThe Radio Merit Badge book:  https://filestore.scouting.org/filestore/Merit_Badge_ReqandRes/Pamphlets/Radio.pdf \nARRL JOTA page:  https://www.arrl.org/jamboree-on-the-air-jota  \n  \nRadio Scouting: https://k2bsa.net/ \n

SUMMARY:Simplex net
DESCRIPTION:The Simplex net will be on 146.580MHz starting at 6:15pm.\nA great way to explore the reach of your 2 meter equipment without benefit of repeater\, both receiving and transmitting. \nBring a pad of paper and record signal reports for all you hear. We will collect and collate these. \nUse this scale for your reports: \n1=Nothing at all heard\, not even noise or hiss suggesting a specific signal is present. \n2=It was apparent that a signal was present but communication is impossible even with reasonable re-tries. \n3=Communication possible with noise and possibly some re-tries to cover drop outs. \n4=Good communication though with some noise or other artifacts\, but generally solid copy. \n5=Solid copy\, little or no noise\, full or nearly full quieting. \nBe patient during silences as there will probably be participants you cannot hear and net control is likely communicating with those stations during silences.

SUMMARY:Marconi Net
DESCRIPTION:Moved up one week so it does not interfere with the Tour De Foothills.  Also changed from 12pm to 11am because of the time change (always at 1900UTC). \nThe WG6OTA repeater will be linked to the GB3IW repeater on the Isle of Wight. \n\n\n\nThe Marconi Net is a cooperation between GOTAhams and the Isle of Wight Radio Society\, UK. We will celebrate the fellowship between UK and US hams with the MARCONI NET. The WG6OTA repeater on Sunset Ridge\, North of Claremont\, in Southern California\, will be linked to the GB3IW repeater\, near Cowes\, on the Isle of Wight\, in the UK. The KS7MC repeater (Spirit Mountain Amateur Radio Club) in Fort Mohave Arizona may also be linked during these nets. These are open repeaters\, and we welcome guests. As usual\, we encourage all participants to completely ignore (do not acknowledge in any way) any intentional interference during this or any other net. \nThe net will always start at 19:00 UTC (which is 12 noon in California and Arizona and 8pm in Cowes\, UK during the summer). The net start time is specified in UTC time to avoid any confusion as U.S. Daylight Savings Time and British Summer Time change on different weekends. (In the Winter it will be; 11am in California\, 12pm in Arizona\, and 7pm in Cowes\, UK) \nNo special radio programming is required\, just access the WG6OTA repeater as usual and it will be linked to GB3IW. \nKeep transmissions to less than 2 minutes and allow time for a FULL carrier drop (by the repeater) between transmissions. We do ask that participants pay special attention to avoid time outs. \nFor information about the clubs\, please check out their respective web sites at:\nhttps://gotahams.com\nhttps://iowrs.org \nFor information about the net\, contact: Bill Appleton\, KF4MCG at kf4mcg@hotmail.com\nSee the maps below for information on the locations of WG6OTA and GB3IW. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nApproximately 5\,425 miles between repeaters.
