GOTAhams VHF/UHF Channel plan & programming guide

Chris Argueta KI6AMK has invested lots of time and thought into creating a channel plan for this growing club. In the spirit of our title “Get On The Air” Chris included a “CodePlug” (the programming data) for a Baofeng UV5R radio to be used with “Chirp” software to easily program your radio. I will try to explain how to adapt this CodePlug for use with any radio that can be programmed using Chirp software.

Proposed GOTAHams Channel Plan
GOTAHams members seem to live as far west as Glendora, as far south as Chino
and as far west as Ontario (possibly Redlands). The Mountains being our northern border.
Claremont and San Dimas seems to be our epicenter, as our club meetings are in Claremont, our presence at the Claremont swapmeet and “Radio In The Park” in San Dimas etc.
The following is a suggested VHF/UHF channel plan, centered around our general geographic area. The channel plan was developed with what our area of operations would be in an emergency. Please feel free to suggest edits.
Simplex channels were chosen from the nationally recognized simplex portions of the bands.

Unfortunately our Web Host does not allow us to upload .img or .dat files )c: and they do not host FTP file areas. To acquire the files (.dat & .img) You will connect to a “DropBox” shared folder through our GOTAhams Proposed channel plan button and download the files directly. We have also included a link to “Chirp” programming software. many of the “Chinese” radios, Baofeng etc. require a programming cable that have internal USB to Serial converter chips. the original cables use “Prolific” chips that have been cloned and with software updates most of them have been rendered useless for programming. The fix or update is replacing the cable with newer FTDI chips that use internal drivers from windows requiring no driver installation. FTDI based cables JUST WORK!

If you have problems programming your radio, email us and we will do our best to help you. With some of the new/pending regulatory issues with some Chinese manufacturers We cannot program radios for you but will guide you through the process and steer you around/away from adding frequencies that are outside of your License privileges.
