Special Events

In addition to our recurring monthly and annual events, GOTAhams and individual members have enjoyed participating in a range of special radio activities in recent years.  Volunteers from the GOTAhams have provided radio support form many events. Below are some examples.

Kids Care 5K

The KC5K is a annual 5K Run / Walk through Frank G. Bonelli Regional Park, benefiting the KidCare International charity. GOTAhams has provided radio support as well as some traffic control for this event since it began in 2022.

Tour De Foothills

For the past few years GOTAhams have supported the Tour De Foothill bicycle tour by providing radio communications to rest stops and SAG cars which are dispatched to help the bike riders.

Covina Christmas Parade

Club members have supported the Covina Christmas Parade. We provide radio communication support to the City of Covina all day for the parade and other events. Working with police, fire, EMS, as well as parade coordinators to help this city wide event run smoothly. In the past GOTAhams have played vital roles; reporting a fire that started during the parade in 2021, notifying and directing EMS to the scene of a serious injury in 2022, and we even helped someone find a lost dog also in 2022. Who knows what will happen in 2024? Usually we just relay information about changes in the parade lineup to the announcers at various locations along the route.

Providing radio support at fixed and/or mobile bases is essential to the safe operation of these events and is both fun and satisfying for member-participants.  We anticipate more such opportunities in the future.
